Pot roasted as PHC turn up the heat

By Jonathan Kent

Lobster Pot 1 PHC 7 First Division high-fliers PHC stuck seven past Commercial League Lobster Pot at White Hill Field yesterday to ease into the second round of the FA Cup.
Torie Russell netted twice for the Zebras, whose other scorers were Stephen Astwood, Blenn Bean, Corey Dowling, Kevin Lambe and Jahnai Raynor.
Saleem Mukuddem netted Pot’s consolation goal.
Pot held out for 15 minutes before Astwood started the rout with a scrambled goal, the first of three in six minutes.
Russell’s near post header from a corner made it 2-0 in the 17th minute before Bean’s left-footed, in-swinging corner four minutes later fooled Pot goalkeeper Brian Ward and went directly in.
PHC notched a fourth goal in the 32nd minute when Dowling side-footed home from close range after an excellent run and low cross from the right by Astwood.
Ten minutes later, Dowling created the next goal with a superb left-wing cross that was met by a towering header from Lambe.
Facing a five-goal deficit, Pot at least stuck to the task and gave an improved second-half performance marked by an impressive solo goal from Mukuddem.
The midfielder raced onto a through ball and ran 50 yards while holding off opponent Michael Lambe before he slotted home calmly in the 52nd minute.
But the Zebras restored their five-goal cushion just two minutes later when Raynor lashed into the net from ten yards after Astwood crossed.
Good goalkeeping by Ward and dogged defending from Pot allowed only one more score by the First Division side, a right-foot strike from eight yards that gave Russell his second 12 minutes from time.Ireland Rangers 1
Key West Rangers 3Another Commercial League side secured a spot in the second round of the FA Cup yesterday, overcoming Ireland Rangers at Malabar.
Mark Trott’s strike gave the Commercial A side a first-half lead but multiple substitutions from their Division One opponents seemed to have turned the tide.
Lloyd Telford continued his recent hot streak with another goal to even things up after 61 minutes for what should have inspired a comeback.
But Key West romped straight down the field and Jenson Bascome fired them back into the lead.
With Ireland Rangers, now minus coach Clyde Best, chasing the game, holes began to form in their defence and Craig Critchlow took full advantage with a deflected 86th minute strike sealing the victory for the Commercial side.
In truth, Key West Rangers could have had a couple more as they surprisingly overturned their underdog status.
